About this Tool

Microsoft Copilot (formerly called Bing Chat Enterprise) is an AI-powered assistant designed to help you with a wide range of tasks. It enables users to generate content, analyze data, summarize documents, create images, write code, learn new skills, and much more.

Logging into Copilot with your IU credentials gives you access to a generative AI platform with data protection, meaning that what you enter into the chatbot will not be used to train future AI models, making it the preferred AI platform for use by faculty, staff, and students at IU. Copilot does not save chat history, and it does not have access to organizational resources or content.

Copilot has access to current internet data, allowing it to provide up-to-date responses to your queries. It is available across platforms, including via the web at copilot.microsoft.com, via mobile apps, and embedded into some newer versions of Windows.

Copilot is available to faculty, staff, and students aged 18 and older at Indiana University. If instructional use is planned, instructors should provide alternative activities for students under 18 or those uncomfortable with using generative AI.

Note this version of Copilot is different than Copilot for Microsoft 365, which is a deeper integration of AI into Microsoft 365 applications and requires an additional cost.

Remember, generative AI systems can make mistakes and you should always check the accuracy of its output.
