In lots of ways higher education disproportionally focuses on evaluation at the expense of opportunity for student self-discovery of a future self image. Faculty, however, have the power to design these opportunities and integrate them into curricula. In this Great Conversation, Scott Barry Kaufman, author of Wired to Create: Unravelling the Mysteries of the Creative Mind and Transcend: The New Science of Self-Actualization, describes the teacher’s role in helping students explore and see a personally meaningful future of self. He discusses the importance for our students of the move towards self-actualization and connection to their living meaningful lives.
